Dr. Hirsch has long been interested in new technologies for the treatment of diabetes, particularly those involved in the use of insulin therapy. He is also interested in better use of blood glucose meters with downloading, use of the Internet to improve diabetes care, and best practices for insulin pump therapy. More recently, he has been involved in key studies about the use of continuous glucose monitoring. His classic review of insulin analogs, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, is among numerous articles and publications he has written or edited on cutting-edge diabetes technology. Dr. Hirsch is also a past editor of the ADA journals Clinical Diabetes and DOC News and has served on the ADA Board of Directors and in many national committee leadership positions for the association. A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Medicine, Dr. Hirsch completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Miami and Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Fla., and his endocrinology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.
